Woo Hoo! The first bus to bachelor was our opening salvo over the bows of the skiing season. I was so excited to get the system launched and bring a busload of boarders and skiers up to the mountain that I could barely sleep the night before. Not to worry I told myself…I can sleep on the bus on the way up… which is exactly what I didn’t do.
We had a full bus - 55 people all as eager as I was to get there and we had a new driver with a modicum of fear for driving in the snow… not good but it’s what we had to go with so we did. Nice guy… just not the man for the job to get us there… first run tests always shake the bugs out.
We had a great parking spot once we arrived, and guest services was packed with people getting season and 5 day passes. Our contact at Bachelor was awaiting our arrival and had tickets printed and in hand so we were able to get people on the slope relatively quick.
Not all runs were open and the backside was still closed but, what was open was good. The snow was dry powder and if you knew where to look you could get some great pow runs in… for those sticking to the groomed, the morning was good but by afternoon there was a little slicing and dicing by the boarder trax and made it slightly challenging for those newbies giving it a go.
It was cold tho and the ice quickly built up on my goggles. Half the time I was skiing by brail. But you know, it’s not half bad - when you can’t see what may cause you to hesitate, you can work on technique.
Back on the bus at 3:45 and off we went at 4:02, pretty much right on schedule… to that I give big kudos to the riders for being on time. You guys rock!
So, we’ll give it a go again next Saturday… and maybe…just maybe… Outback will be open…
