Word o’ the day – Snow! It’s finally here and I’m kicking the season off with opening day on Bachelor, Dec 14, 08. I went through my gear, top to bottom, boot to beanie – I’m good to go. This is going to be an absolutely stellar season!
It’s been an interesting pilgrimage to get to this point – I’ve been collecting pieces of new gear over the last four months to improve my comfort and outdoor clothing “system”. I took the summer to learn about Gore-tex, Windstopper, and a few other fabrics.
I learned about building a personal heating and cooling system by layering my clothing. I didn’t need much but with a couple of adept acquirements and one loss, I’m so prepared for this season. My last piece is my black Spyder soft shell that I got at Berg’s- it’s fabulous – I had 4 people ask me about it the first day I wore it…love the system…
We’re lining the buses up to run on the 20th… the first buses – when you simply don’t want to drive but you do want to play… take the bus to the mountains – most people sleep but some watch movies, read and more. Plus the Berg’s buses have clean bathrooms!
For those of you interested in how the system works take a look at the schedules here: Berg’s Bus Schedule. And if you really want to know more just ask at the shop or ask for me – Val. I’m the lead chaperone and can answer most of your questions… for those I can’t, I know several folks who can… keeping the waxed side down.

Once the word came that Bachelor was definitely going to open as planned on the 14th, I asked chaperon
“>Greg Hughes to accompany me to investigate and get a scope on the mountain.
We looked for new terrain development like the moving of the snow park closer to Sunrise and the employee building - The Sumner building located in front of the Guest Services building.
With only Pine Martin lift operating, we were able to ski the runs feeding back into it and had a great time! Powder drifts provided knee-deep opportunities for fun and the groomed run offered up some great skiing for others. I look forward to having more of the mountain to play with as the snow comes in.
The lines at Pine Martin are still the same – people jam up at the bottom and get sorted out only after they get through the gate where it’s much more crowded – more thought about this process would be helpful… Early in the day the Pine Martin lines were nearly ½ wait but later in the afternoon it thinned out nicely.
All in all –
I can’t wait to go back and scrape some more flakes off the side of the mountain – at least push them around. If you’re not quite prepared – hop on down to Berg’s and get your ducks lined up… we’re running the buses again.
